Knowing how to take a screenshot on your iPad can come in handy for all sorts of reasons. Whether you want to capture a snapshot of video, or give someone a preview of a project you're working on, taking a picture of your screen is extremely easy to do.
The following method works for all iPads with a Home button, so that's iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air, and iPad Pro (2017 models and earlier). If your iPad doesn't have a Home button – if it's a 2018 iPad Pro, for example – the way to take screenshots is a little different, as explained here.
Pressing the Sleep/Wake button first reduces the chance of accidentally activating Siri, but once you get the knack of taking a screenshot, you can press both buttons at the same time.
You'll know straight away if you've successfully taken a screenshot: your iPad's screen will flash briefly, and if the audio is enabled, you'll hear a camera shutter sound. You'll also see the screenshot shrink into the bottom-left corner of the screen.
If you do nothing, the captured shot will slide out of view after a few seconds and be saved to your Camera Roll in the Photos app. However if you tap the shot, you'll enter Instant Markup mode, where you can crop the shot, annotate it with writing tools, share it, or delete it.
